Government will reimburse the total value of the houses damaged by the Meethotamulla disaster - Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says
Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says that the government has decided to pay the total value of the houses destroyed by the Meethotamulla tragedy.
While at a meeting with a team of representatives of the affected families of the Meethotamulla tragedy at Temple Trees Hon. Prime Minister further said that the government will take measures in due course to grant a concessionary allowance even to the affected families living on rent.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers, Members of Parliament and public officials. The meeting provided the opportunity for those affected by the tragedy to hold discussions with the Hon. Prime Minister directly and they elaborated the issues currently being confronted by them in consequence of the tragedy.
The affected participants were also enlightened on the decisions that have been taken by the government in this regard such as to provide housing for the families willing to vacate the risk-prone area, to grant an allowance of Rs. 50,000/- to an affected family until the risk is estimated, to grant a transport allowance for the families vacating the risk-prone area, to write-off the outstanding due to be paid by the affected people on the loans obtained from the Housing Authority, to pay compensation on damaged household equipment and appliances, vehicles, etc.
Prime Minister reaches Vietnam
Hon.Ranil Wickramasinghe, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka who is on an official visit to Vietnam on invitation from Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam reached Vietnam yesterday (16) through Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
A special army parade was held at the Noi bai International Airport in honour of the visiting Prime Minister, Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Hon. Prime Minister is due to hold discussions with the high level dignitaries including the President and the Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam during his official visit to Vietnam.
Hon. Prime Minister on an official visit to Japan
Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe reached Japan yesterday on an official visit. Prime Minister was welcomed at the Narita International Airport by Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister Hiroto Izumi and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Japan Dhammika Ganganath Dissanayake.
